This shoot is hosted by Bighorn Archery Club of 100 Mile House and was held on a cold, snowy March day weekend. Well, it snowed on the Saturday when we were there, anyway!
There were 15 Rinehart 3D’s and boy, did the guys & girls do a good job of making a really cool little indoor 3D course! Shooting through wonderfully decorated hollow logs, at a bear behind a moving tree, seated shots and a lovely long shot right at the end that could earn you bonus points!
I entered the women’s Barebow class and Marc entered Men’s Longbow. Our companions Myles and Terry entered Longbow and the Compound classes, respectively. Inside this large tin shed of a building, it has to be said that it was absolutely freezing! The guys had put a couple of propane patio heaters near to the shooting line, so these were much appreciated when you need to get some feeling back in your fingers!
Despite being a tad cold, I managed 125 in the first round, with my Hoyt Dorado barebow recurve. I was extremely pleased with this score and was happy knowing that I had scored better than my best round at the previous 15-target indoor 3D in Abbotsford. Despite this, I didn’t know who else was in my category and how they might be getting on, so I wasn’t complacent.
Marc had a little trouble getting out of the blocks, in the first couple of rounds, but eventually finished with an amazing 144 points!
Although we weren’t able to shoot over both days, we later found out that Marc & I both won our classes. Now for me, that wasn’t hard as there were simply no other women in the bare bow category. But I did find out that I also came top over the other women’s classes of longbow and recurve, plus men’s bare bow, so that was pleasing!
Had Myles submitted his score, he would have come third in the Men’s longbow category. Not bad for someone who, up until 4 months ago, was shooting a compound!
Yak from Bighorn kindly met up with isa week or so after the shoot, to give us our medals, which was awesome!
A huge thanks to all the Bighorn chaps and ladies that we met. We really enjoyed meeting you and your shoot was brilliant. Hopefully see you at our Kamloops 3D in April!
